STUDENT ENTREPRENEURS

A cross grade level team of students at San Clemente High School entered the Hype Global Youth Start Up Foundation’s “Youth for the Elderly” competition. Their entrepreneurial product is called MOM, Memory Optimization Manager.  Students wrote a business plan, conducted a market analysis, designed a logo, and submitted their product portfolio, a Power Point Pitch Deck and a You Tube Video  to the judges located around the world. The students competed with students from eight European countries and won the top prize awarded at the Expo in Milan, Italy.  At the same time 4th grade students at San Onofre School utilized the same “portfolio” process, to create two companies, Blue Tech and Earth Power. They designed their logos, built their products, conducted an analysis of cost and profit, and wrote an advertisement featuring the benefits of their tools.  Bankers partnered to help the students with the finance portion of this project.   The 2017 HYPE competition was "Innovations in Sports" wtih top prize awarded at the Olympic Games in Rio. Two of the vocational classes, of tailoring and hair dressing, at A Child Unheard Foundation School in Mityana, Uganda, utilized the Get Real Quiz Decks to understand issues in the world.  Twenty cards were randomly picked out for the one hour quiz session. The questions of the twenty quiz cards that had been picked out for the day’s quiz had been translated in the local language to balance comprehension on the side of the competitors. Starfish pins were awarded to winners.

The Boys to Men  organization, in Chattanooga, TN partnered with the Booker T. Washington State Park and worked with the park rangers who taught the young men gardening during a six week period. The young men will take the knowledge and build community gardens in their own neighborhoods.  This ongoing project is part of the Independent Youth Services Foundation in Chattanooga.  Boys to Men in Chattanooga has also “chosen” to participate in a six-week customized coding class at the CHIPS Learning Center, a new state-of-the-art edutainment “hot spot” for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) project based learning. Boys to Men will also participate in in the annual Youth Blast Summit at UTC.  Herbert “Book” McCray, the Founder of Independent Youth Services Foundations, the parent company of Boys to Men, was a previous Assistant Principal of 21st Century Prep.

In the SOS Entrepreneur Club “chose” researched the wild bird feeding project conducted by students at Millikin University, in Decatur, Illinois.  Students created their bird feeders, hung them on Camp Pendleton, and met with bankers and investors to understand how products are funded and brought to market.  Schools First Federal Credit Union provided banks for the students.
